Ostia Antica is a lost port city of the city of Rome. Abandoned after the fall of the Empire and then covered in mud by the flooding Tiber River it was unearthed in the late 18th century and is now an archaeological park.
It is highly accessible - you can walk up to and on ancient floors and approach and even touch wall frescoes.
