1-0 We Won!!

A different entry for this gallery, but this is real "daily life" stuff :)

On tuesday I had the chance to see my heart's team play for the Champions League....
(For the Americans, this is soccer stuff). I won that pretty VIP invitation that you all
can see on the top image, courtesy of Sony Portugal, to see the best football team in the
world (ok! for me they are) Sporting Clube de Portugal play against INTER Milano from Italy.

I was all happy thinking that I was going to make a great photojournalistic gallery
about that day, when I took that second photo on the top... What I didn't know, was
that UEFA doesn't allow people to take cameras to the stadium. Some guy that had seen me
shooting before we entered the stadium had told me that I wouldn't pass security.. Of
course I thought he was just trying to make conversation
(ok he was, but that's another story),
even more so when I passed the security guy without being frisked....
but what I didn't know was that women were frisked by female
securities once inside...
So, they took my camera away and I could only shoot with the cellphone as can be seen in the little images on the bottom...
I almost lost the cellphone on the sequence of that play that I was following in the 3rd
little image as WE SCORED!!!
In the last photo I am returning home by boat wearing my team scarf, just a bit bummed out
for not being able to take photos and also for not being able to convince the guys from Sony
that I might deserve a Sony Alpha on account of whatever, but they didn't listen to me...
Overall it was a fantastic night, even because we had never beaten Inter Milano before :P
and the first time I went there to see Sporting play, we kicked their butts
Sorry tiffosi, I am just so happy!!

Serious photography will follow soon (I hope) as well as comments and messages
and other assorted Pbase stuff. I just had to share this special moment with
you all.

And now for the THANK YOU'S:

Sporting Clube de Portugal (Always!!!!)
Marco Caneira (for that awesome goal)
Sony Portugal (Thanks again, that seat was the best ever. About the Alpha could we..ok never mind)
The guy that warned me about the camera issue (Sorry, I made up that phone number I gave you)
The stewards that I've asked about where was my seat (I'd never been there & it's a big stadium)
Assorted others for assorted reasons (well...)
And especially to you that put up with all my sms's (It was what kept my fingers from freezing!)

great story, Ana... I am sure you had a blast, even w/o your "real" camera;)

Totally awesome sequence, and story Ana! Love the whole story from beginning
to end, especially about giving the guy the wrong number!LOL!...The pictures you
put together still look great, and gives us a feel for your wonderful day as only
you can do. Congratulations on winning the vip invitation, and your team. Seriously,
I think Sony owes you an Alpha kit with lenses and the whole kaboodle! :-)

Congratulations Ana...nice way how you show this evening. Tonight my favorite football club play since longtime European football...it is FC Groningen and they must play against Partizan Belgrado. I hope they will win ;)

LOL!
Ana, this is the first time I read a blog, usually they are so annoying...
But your humorous and well written story has hooked me till the end!
Merci ;-))

For the Americans: it's football not soccer. American football has nothing to do with football. It should be called handball or holdball or don't-touch-me-ball or I'll-break-your-neck-ball, but not football. Except for field-goals, feet are not involved in American whatchamacallitball.

Years ago, we were in a hotel in Cascais. One day TV vans and security guys were all of a sudden crawling all over the place. As it turned out, your team, Sporting Lisbon, had taken hold of the hotel to prepare for some cup final (against FC Porto, if I remember right). Anyways, there were all these fit-looking young men in the hotel and their groupies waiting outside. I think, Sporting lost the final. Well, that's that.

It was interesting to read your story Ana. We can see you enjoyed the game.

That's a good story, Ana. We cheered like crazy for Portugal in the World Cup (to support you, and because we like the name Deco) so it's good to see a Portuguese team turn the tables on an Italian one. Always enjoy your adventures. John

My congratulations for cellular pictures.
Them two points you already know I have to stress: YOU , did win, WE did not.
Second, SCP, the something best ? Well, lets say, the best of second circular.Obviously, the best portuguese team, is F.C.Porto, as facts are facts.
But I´m with you against that stupid and arrogant ban on taking pictures. When they did not allow me to use my camera, I shall use. I did that in Washington Capitol and in other places where they try to limit my freedom,
Abraço e parabens pelo seu team,
jorge

Hey what a great entertaining story ! You did a superb job with the photoshoot.
Also got to see you in true light, without the dark subdued curtains pulled for a change
I have enjoyed this well done.
