The “bear” apparently was a popular winter denizen of this mountain resort town and appears in at least one other honeymoon photo (not included here). The other couple are likely my mother’s brother Sevek and his wife Mina, who were married the day after my parents and joined them for part of their honeymoon. This may be the only photo we have of Sev as an adult. In his face one can see a resemblance to his father and the mischievous smile about which my mother wrote in one of her essays. Sev had a degree in chemistry (and/or business administration – my mother and Felicia had different recollections on this) from the University of Caen in France. Sev and Mina remained in Warsaw and were killed by the Nazis, either in the ghetto or in a concentration camp.
