Newly married friends from Warsaw who had emigrated to Palestine invited my mother for an extended visit in 1935, a place she had long wanted to visit. She took a train from Warsaw to Constanta, Romania, a port on the Black Sea, from where she boarded the S.S. Kosciuczko to Palestine. The ship called at Istanbul and Piraeus, Greece (near Athens), giving her an opportunity to sightsee in both places. On the way she became friendly with several young Jewish people who were also going to Palestine. One of them, she writes a young dancer and actor from Riga, Latvia Sasha was his name became my constant companion during my entire stay in Palestine. Im guessing that the man standing next to her in this photo is probably Sasha.
