We felt that this next leg might prove to be a difficult trip, not just because of the possibility (or rather probability) of rough weather, but also because the Yam Kippur war had just concluded in Israel and the Suez Canal was still closed to shipping. Therefore, we knew that there would be a lot of shipping going around the Cape and we wanted an extra pair of eyes, so we took Peter, a friend we had met in Durban, with us on this leg.
