Arrival. Our one day "Tour of the Lakes" started out from our base in the small town of Stresa (in the region of Piemonte, Italia), which sits on the western coast of Lago Maggiore.
It took us north along said coast, across the border into the Swiss province of Ticino, and along the A13 motorway including the tunnel bypass which runs under the city of Locarno at the north of the lake. From there we briefly turned east across the lake's northern tip, before swinging south to make a cross country run to the city of Lugano, which sits on the western edge of the next lake over; the not coincidentally named Lago di Lugano.
For two of us, this was the first time that we had set foot in Switzerland since 2016. For the other two, the first time ever. They sky could have been more cooperative, but it did clear up a little later in the day.
Regardless, when we piled out of the bus this was our first sight; Lago di Lugano, and the ferry Italia.
