Eataly is a gourmet food chain based in - you guessed from the pun, didn't you - Italy. It does have outlets in other countries, though, but not Australia. The Rome outlet is based along the railway line leading to Roma Ostiense railway station in what strikes me as a reclaimed former industrial area. It's down near the gladiator school (previous shot), and our original intention was to head here from there. However the need for a shower and change of clothes caused us to head for the apartment first, then hop a taxi back to here. (Getting here is easy, getting back less so. There weren't a lot of taxis departing Eataly and while we could have gone by rail it would have meant a change of lines and a longer journey than I would have liked. Not good with bags of refrigerated food.)
There are various departments, and restaurants within each department. There are cooking classes and demonstrations, and of course any form of food your heart could possibly desire. There's even a small bookstore on the ground floor near the coffee and pastries section.
We had lunch at one of the seafood restaurants and bought some supplies for dinner and breakfast at our apartment. I really wish we'd had more time to explore this place.
