20140203_2032290 Beneath (Mon 03 Feb)

Pirrama Park, Pyrmont, NSW

We are looking across part of Johnston's Bay in Pyrmont. These steps lead down into the water of the Bay, and in fact you can just make out the tops of a metal ladder, almost fully submerged. The full inscription is "Beneath the Still Sea The Truth Lies". In reality the last three words are rarely if ever seen, being below the waterline a lot of the time. In fact the expression "The Still Sea" is so overgrown with marine gunk that it takes some working out as well. "Beneath" remains pretty much as it was inscribed but even then you can see the effects of the water taking a toll on the stone surrounding it.

Those who know me even somewhat are aware that I have no great affinity for being in, on or under the sea so it seemed appropriate for me to photograph this has something that is being devoured and may soon be "beneath" itself.
