When the First Fleet arrived in Australia on this day in 1788, there is little doubt that their European sensibilities were assaulted by the heat and humidity, not to mention the harsh light, of the middle of an Australian summer. Actually I think it may have offended El Gato's sensibilities as well as I recall that when I was taking this series of shots she was constantly rubbing up against me. I'm not sure what the message was unless it was "turn down the sodding heat, will you??"
