Around October each year there's a series of events held around Hyde Park in Sydney. One is the Noodle Night, where food stands are set up selling various noodle dishes. Another is the Art And About event's Sydney Life exhibit. This consists of perhaps a couple of dozen images blown up onto huge canvases and suspended from the trees that run along the central walkway of the park.
This one is from the photographic series Parramatta Road. (That's the main west-bound roadway heading out of the city, lined for most of its way with strip malls.) This particular image is Friday Afternoon at Dog Groomers, Inner West.
Now make no mistake, I really like this shot. I think it does what it sets out to do very well, showing the busyness of the woman and the varied expressions on the clients. It makes good use of space and shape and colour.
But if you're going to title an image "Friday Afternoon"... it's probably best not to have a honking great clock in the background showing a time of 10:38.
