110317_163728_3174322 Celebrating The Green (Thu 17 Mar)

King and York Streets, Sydney CBD

One for my Irish visitors. At least it's a better attempt at a St Patrick's Day photograph than last year's.

This was not, however, the intended photo for today. I was originally going to have dinner at P J O'Brien's; the faux Irish pub chain whose Tullamarine airport branch was featured in my PAD of 04 April last year.

I was thinking of a shot of some hearty Irish stew and a glass of Guinness... OK, Pepsi (if I had the choice) or Coke (if I didn't) made out to look like Guinness, since I don't actually drink... all with a doubtless fraudulently authentic Celtic background.

Except that when I got there at about 4:30 this afternoon there was a queue of people in garishly verdant attire stretching out the door and part way down the street.

Ooooh-kay.

Plan B was to be found in the hotel just across the road, after trying out a few different shooting positions.

Looks pretty much how St Patrick's Day is celebrated the world over - except you've got better weather.
Are you going to the parade on Saturday.

Whoever invented those ghastly hats must be laughing all the way to the bank! There was a sea of them in Dublin today...
