I did a shot of the wallaby grass in Metcalfe Park on 31 March last year. At that time the stalks were more abundant and more purple, though hardly anyone got to see the image because the memory card was left at the office when I went away to Melbourne for a few days and wasn't posted to the PAD until about a week later.
This is, in any case, a rather different shot of it. I noticed this stalk standing alone with the midday summer sun beating down on it almost as a spotlight between the shadows of the trees. The only problem was a breeze which kept waving it around but thankfully the Olympus needed only 1/500th of a second. (Though even then I could detect a slight motion blur if I zoomed in.) It was originally my backup shot but I have a better chance of reproducing the primary one in the future, so I elected to give this one the PAD nod today.
And yes, I've nicked Nicky Thurgar's idea of showing a thumbnail of the previous year's image below; it's interesting to be able to relate the shots in my memory. Of course these will thin out a lot come June...
