The view of the fireworks that went off can be seen here. Some others were cancelled. (Which I now regard as me dodging not so much a bullet as an artillery shell.)
The reddish orb to the right of the fireworks is the moon, which had just risen and was slightly past full.
The view over Sydney Harbour and the Opera House was exceptional.
