Hey, I'll bet no-one has ever shot the Opera House before {cough!}. It was an interesting morning. My original intention was to take a couple of shots around The Rocks (the area around western Circular Quay) just after sunrise. Then I saw this, and the rest was history.
A word of caution when walking through The Rocks; some of the old cobbled footpaths are very uneven. When you have a 40D around your neck and are wearing a backpack, both of which change your centre of gravity, then when your ankle twists around 90 degrees into the depression of a cobblestone... you are going down. Thankfully the lens hood took the camera's fall (it was around my neck but I was going down forward), the backpack padding took the brunt for the notebook and me? Well, aside from having an ankle the size of a grapefruit tonight I'm relatively unscathed. Then just to top things off, I couldn't figure out why I had as many blurry shots as I did this morning even though I knew I was limited by not having a tripod.
One of the purposes of doing a PAD is to get into the habit of checking your equipment before shooting. Like whether you have the lens' I.S. (VR for you Nikon types) switched off or not. D'OH!!!. Still, this one didn't turn out too badly for an unaided shot.
