Two (presumably parent) birds are teaching junior how to obtain... whatever it is they're eating on the surface of the pond, which is something that I'm not sure that I want to know.
I originally didn't know the type, but I've been reliably informed that they're Dusky Moorhens[1]. Their breeding season is from September to March, and with the baby out on the water it's likely to be at least 6 weeks old, putting its birthday near the end of the breeding season.

[1] Edit April 2024: By "reliably informed", I mean that I was dating a vet at the time. That would blow itself up in three days from now, as you'll see from the caption on that day's photo.
