As we were having lunch, we noticed what appeared to be a large bird swooping and soaring over some of the boats anchored in the bay. However this particular pelican seemed to have just a little bit TOO much stamina; it had been climbing and diving for well over an hour.

After lunch I hauled the 70-200mm down to the edge of the bay and found... it's some kind of kite. Judging from the meshing on the deck of the boat behind the fisherman's, it's presumably intended to drive off any other birdlife in the area and prevent... a certain amount of nastiness, shall we say, on the deck.

It's very realistic, though; the wings can even "flap", after a fashion.
