Thank you to John Stanton for providing this image of a painting that his mom Hyacinth "Hy" Larkin Stanton painted in the early 1960's when they were stationed at Kodiak. Hy's husband CDR Joseph Stanton, Coast Guard Aviator #288, was a Coast Guard pilot flying the HU-16's there. Hy also hosted a TV puppet show on Channel 8 in Kodiak titled "Let's Play It Safe." After Joe Stanton retired from active duty he worked as a civilian employee at the Seventh Coast Guard District office in Miami for many years.
Hyacinth Hy Larkin Stanton was a former writer-producer for WLRN Channel 17 in Miami. She
retired around 1988, and passed away in 1990, after a long battle with cancer. She was well known for a few things down in Miami, such as producing a very graphic film/video geared to convincing people to quit smoking. She was also the vocal point for an article on "euthanasia" that some old guy who did the column "Neighbors" in the Miami Herald and published in the 1980's. Hy's dad was Jack Larkin, owner of some of the Red Coach Grill restaurants that were in the Northeast and South Florida for decades.
