According to the state archives, a road along the north, east, and south borders of Miami Municipal Airport was built to provide automobile access to the airport and to airplanes participating in the International Air Races held at Miami Municipal. The roadwork was done under FERA (Federal Emergency Relief Administration) contract 13-B1-220.
