The new $1.1 billion South Terminal at Miami International Airport opened on August 29, 2007 when Delta Airlines moved into their new ticket counter spaces in the new terminal. Air France moved into their new ticket counters shortly afterwards. A variety of airlines will be phased into the new terminal, and the new Concourse J with 15 gates, from early September until early November when all of the airlines involved in the move will be in position. The terminal and concourse were two years late from the original projected opening date and the final construction budget was overrun by 27%. The new terminal has 1.7 million square feet and serves airline operations on Concourse J and the recently renovated Concourse H.
