Totally Informal Transglobal Challenge
The "Precious Metal" Thursday Challenge had me thinking about how fine metals
and metalworkers have changed our lives. I thought of how the invention
of the accurate marine chronometer, to partner the sextant, opened up our world
to precise navigation and map making. So, I had to pay homage to the cogs and
hands of the clock, and more especially John Harrison 1693-1776, who solved the
problems of measuring longitiude when he devised a truly accurate marine chronometer
and won 20,000 English Pounds - a vast fortune in that era. That story is HERE.
