No history of photography in the United States would be complete without
the story of the Argus Camera Co. and perhaps especially, the Argus C3.
This particular (working) model is from 1941, but the model was
manufactured over several decades, and sold like the proverbial "hot cakes".
It is said that this was the best selling model in the world for three decades.
This camera has the following identifiers:
Serial No. 03344##
No Accessory Shoe
No Logo
'Five screw' hinges
Flash Contacts in side of body
10 Speeds - 1/5 to 1/300 'old style' viz. incl 1/20, 1/75, 1/150
f3.5 Argus Cintar lens (uncoated) (Elmar design) incl f6.3, f 9 and f 12.7
Argus Cameras are still being produced, including some modernistic digital
bodies, which pay homage to the quirkiness of the 'brick' design of the Argus C3 et al.
