Flinders Ranges

Outback South Australia

There is something mystical and magical about the Flinders Ranges in the outback of South Australia,
about 250km west of Adelaide. This image is one of my first views - in 1966 - and at that moment
and for many times since, I have felt some form of spiritual awakening as I have seen these magnificent
ranges come into view. The discontinuous ranges are extensive, running north for about 430km, and
ancient, aged upwards from 600 million years by geologists. For me, and for the many others I have
taken to these mountain ranges over the years, there is an experience waiting here which is hard to describe.

Totally agree with you Colin - we camped in them many many years ago, and its absolutely awesome the feeling you get of size and how insignificant you are. We must go back there again soon.
