Hoomaluhia Botanic Garden

Situated on the Windward side of the island of O'ahu, Hoomaluhia Botanic Garden is a flood control area containing a lake and acres of plants from the tropical regions of the world. The lake was designed and built by the Army Corps of Engineers to provide flood protection, for Kaneohe town, after severe flooding in the late 1950s swept away homes in a community down stream of the gardens. In in the Hawaiian language Hoolamuhia means, "to make a place of peace and tranquility"
