OK, so this is NOT one of the 3,300+ factory built 914-6 cars, but rather, one of the very few and rare 916 prototypes built by the Porsche factory in 1972. Here is how the seller describes this particular 916: This is a real 1972 Porsche 916. Duncan Blue with original Chamois leather interior. The 10th of the 11 hand-built factory prototypes. The owner of a Porsche 916 can be assured of having one of the most exclusive Porsches in the world. The first 5 were for members of the Porsche family, 4 are though to have been destroyed and this car is 1 of 7 remaining. The 2.7 RS spec engine was the most powerful available from Porsche at the time.

UPDATE (Aug-24-06 at 17:08:24 PDT): Seller added the following information:

Clarifications and new information from past owners and others familiar with this car 1) Engine is still in its original configuration. 2 years ago it was complete disassembled, inspected and resealed and has not been modified. 2) Regarding the color, the second owner who also owned 916 #0019 and sold it for to buy 916 #0018. He recounted that the 1st owner had the color changed to the present color very early on by Porsche as he did not like the dark blue colour. 3) Correct interior color name is 'Cork'.

Q: Hello and Greetings from Canada! My Father and I are interested in this vehicle, but after reviewing the pictures, are curious as to the Black hand lever ahead of the shift boot. If this vehicle was equipped by Porsche with a Carrera RS 2.7 MFI engine, such a manual throttle control, suited to carbureted cars, would not be necessary. Does this lever do anything? Also, would you be able to put the vehicle on a lift and provide pictures of the undercarriage? I find it interesting that the Speedometer is calibrated for Kilometers, that would mean the vehicle has only 32000KMS which is 20000 miles. How is it that the dash might have been recovered in a car that has only 20000 miles on it. Thanks in advance of your reply. Best Regards, Kris. As far a number that it will sell for, i would like to think that it will be north of what properlty restored 73 RS lightweights are selling for. let me know if i can be of further assistance
