This dash mounted measuring tool was designed for a very specific group of racecars. A Porsche racecar with such a finely tuned, well engineered and balanced engine that could sustain the abuse of road racing at high RPM's. The 914-6 GT was one of those race cars with such an engine.
The part number for the 10k VDO Tachometer used on the 1970 Porsche 914-6 GT is 911.641.304.00. For reference purposes, I have also posted a photo gallery of the correct 911R 10k tachometer, pn 901.741.302.06. When comparing these gauges, notice how the later 914-6 GT 10k tachometer does NOT have a "Redline Marker" on the face dial while the earlier 911R 10k tachometer does. Otherwise, both of these two gauges are identical!
So you don't believe me? OK then, why don't you then just follow me along to this discussion thread located on the Pelican Parts website. See here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=211140 - Note the insertion of several photos as well as a scanned page directly from the 911R Porsche Parts Catalog showing p/n 901.741.302.06 as the correct part number for the 10k VDO tachometer as used on the 911R. The thread continues to say p/n 911.641.304.00 belongs to the 10k VDO tachometer used on the 2.8 liter RSR (1973). Is it possible that Porsche then used p/n 911.641.304.00 from 1970 (914-6 GT) through 1973 (2.8 RSR)? Since I don't have the Porsche parts catalog for the 2.8 liter RSR, I can't confirm it. If you do have the 2.8 RSR parts book, could you please confirm this for me? Thank you!
