Fourth Time's a Charm!

Three Rivers WMA, NY

While this is a very poor photo, please note it is taken nearly half a mile from the camera with only a 300mm + 1.4x T.C. This is the first known successful hatching of wild bald eagles in Onondaga County in Central New York since the hacking programs began decades ago. While the nest became occupied 3 years ago, the couple was unsuccessful in rearing any eaglets. The fourth time here is the charm as here is evidence of not one, but TWO very healthy looking chicks!

Thanks so much, Shawn. I am seriously thinking about digging out my old Fuji S5000 p&s and giving my old digiscoping set-up a try. But it will have to wait a day or two....spending tomorrow canoeing and shooting all around Howland Island and the greater Montezuma NWR area!

This is a wonderful image. I have taken the same shot with a 300mm and 1.4x teleconverter at this site with about the same exact results. I believe it is just a little too far for us with this combination. These are the days I wish I had a 1000mm and 2x, but that is always the case for me. I was out there today and got to see all four birds at the same time. It was inspiring. I love viewing your work. Keep it coming!!!
