These photos are from the island of Cozumel, in the Caribbean Sea, just off the coast of Mexico. Unless otherwise noted, the photos are from January 1995. In the 10 years since my first visit, Cozumel has changed so much that it is hardly recognizable. If these photos make you want to visit Cozumel, be warned that it doesn't look like this anymore. The scuba diving is still good, and you can have a good time there, but any real feel of Mexico has disappeared in the last 10 years. I am not sure if it is because of the huge number of cruise ships that visit this island, but Cozumel has turned into kind of a mini Los Angeles. Hope you enjoy this look at the Cozumel of old.
The guest has a good point. However, at least some of Cozumel used to have a feel and a look of Mexico - as touristy as it might have been. If you go to Cozumel now you wouldn't even know you were in Mexico.

Does anyone else see the irony of this??? Somebody crying that the "real" feel of Mexico is gone, yet brings pictures of foreign megacorportations like Carlos & Barfies, and "Hard Rock Cafe"!!
