This picture doesn't reflect the truly horrid conditions of the basement when I first started the renovation. You can't imagine the amount of rotting wood and piles of brick dust and sand (yes, sand) that took up most of the basement floor. Add the facts that the bottom of the joists supporting the first floor are 5'-10" off the basement floor and that I am 6'-0" tall and you get an uncomfortable working condition in that basement.
