You say crape we say crepe, you say potatoes ..... Any way it's overly no matter how it's said.

Super vivid red and yellow in this pretty flower. Like the framing. I bet you can see this a long way off.

Thank you for this wealth of information Scott! Our crepe myrtle tree has grown like a weed over the past 15 years.
I had always thought our range was somewhere between 6 & 7. Thank you so much for the clarification of our proper zone! :)

Clarification on USDA Hardiness Zones (hard to type a clear list on this comment format):

5B -15F to -10F
6A -10F to -5F
6B -5F to 0F
7A 0F to 5F
7B 5F to 10F

@ Stephanie. Here are some Lagerstroemia (Crapemyrtle) for consideration...

Hardiness Name of Plant Color Foliage

Excellent: -12F Lagerstroemia 'Sarahs Favorite' White Green
Excellent: -8F Lagerstroemia 'Pink Velour' Hot Pink Burgundy
Excellent: -8F Lagerstroemia 'Hopi' Pink Green
Excellent: -8F Lagerstroemia 'Plum Pie' Purple Green
Very Good: -5F Lagerstroemia 'Tonto' Fuschia-Red Green
Very Good: -5F Lagerstroemia 'Yuma' Lavander green
Very Good: -5F Lagerstroemia 'Zuni' Purple Green
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Siren Red' Deep Red Burgundy
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Acoma' White Green
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Burgundy Cotton' White Burgundy
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Catawba' Purple Green
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Sioux' Pink Green
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Victor' Light Red Green
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Muskogee' Lavander Green
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Coral Filli' Coral Red Green
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Violet Filli' Violet Green
Good: 0/-5F Lagerstroemia 'Red Filli' Cherry Red Green

Keep in mind environmental factors that impact micro environments. (1) Heavy clay wet soils have more freeze impact in the winter on the roots than to well drained soils. (2) Protection from prevailing Winter winds help boost Winter hardiness. Locations that offer better winter sun exposure (better southern exposure) also help with the hardiness.

Philadelphia should be a pretty solid USDA Hardiness 7B zone (5F to 10F). I think by the time you get out to Harrisburg you are in the 7A zone (0F to5F). Reading and Allentown fall into the 6B zone (-5F to 0F) and Scranton in the 6B zone (-10F to -5F) with northern areas in the 5s.

Red hot! :)
We have 1 crepe myrtle in our yard. We were told that only crepe myrtles with Indian names survive in a colder climate ~ is that true?

Beautiful, and an unusual colour for a crepe myrtle.
