Floating Mosque, Masjid Tengku Tengah Zaharah

Kuala Ibai

The mosque is located in Kuala Ibai, just over 4km away from Kuala Terengganu town centre, south of Batu Buruk beach. The mosque is built on a floating platform with a lake surrounding it. This gives the illusion of itself floating on water from afar, hence the nickname. It combines Terengganu’s traditional Malay architecture and Moorish architecture, and is built with marble, ceramics, mosaic works and bomanite paving. Its white and plain facet creates a pure yet bold statement.
The mosque is strategically built within the nature, surrounded by a lake and generous amount of green with the South China Sea in view. It is worth visiting especially during sun set. Much more enchanting and impressive at night when the mosque is brightly lighted that enhance the floating effect and its reflection is clearly see on the water. Although one should dress conservatively with no shorts, miniskirts and sleeveless and be mindful of its prayer time as to not disturb the worshippers.
