If the California Quail is the most skittish land bird, the Norther Harrier is "THE" most skittish bird of prey that I know of, excluding the night owls. They are extremely wary of humans although I have seen them glide low over parking lot at times. This bird is very difficult to capture in photo and that is because it generaly cover a hudge territory and try to stay away from human activity as much as possible. They fly at low altitude to the ground over grassy fields or marshes in search of prey like mice, waterfowl and snakes. They are known to drown waterfowl from time to time. The male is very beautiful with a gray color with white underneat the wings. The females and youngs are brown in color with some reddish tint underneat. This hawk has a very peculiar look and viewed from some angle it can have an almost owlish look.
Denifitly my biggist chalenge in bird photography!
