Yellowstone national park is a fabulous place. If you are lucky you will be able to get near a grizzly bear, that is if the rangers don't misteriously appear and stop you from getting anywhere near a bear. The rangers are like God in the park..if a bear appear, they follow right away, as if they are omipresent, unfortunatly. They closed down the area where this mamma bear and her 2 cubs were roaming so we were lucky enough to see her for 2 days..but that was it.

Jan, beleive me there are far more humans killed by other humans than by bears..does that mean that I have to stay away from every human being on the planet? Sure bears can be dangerous, but just like humans, some are crazy, some are not. Bears do not attack humans unless they are startled, or they are simply starving. Death from bear attacks are quite rare. I won't mention the number of people killed by other people in a city like LA for exemple....

Great shots! But ditto on the dangerously close. I was chased by a bear once and believe me, I'd rather be in a car accident. My cousin in Alaska was attacked by a momma bear this year and lived to tell about it. They are incredibly fast and dangerous. Too many dead photographers from these guys to trust being in the same area with them and their cubs. Still, I'd love to get shots like these :) Be careful! You're too exceptional a photographer to lose. Jan

sure they are dangerous, but how many people die in car accidents each day? yet who would want to stop driving or going by car? There are far more risk of driving a car, even just walking on the street by foot than being killed by a bear.

Great shot, but I wouldn't minimize the danger of a Bear. Just a couple weeks ago a very sad story of a lady biking at Panorama in BC lost her life to one.
