Another fascinating day exploring Morocco, as our route took us from Ouarzazate in the south-east, to ERFOUD on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Luxuriant palm groves stretched either side of the town of Tinerhir, contrasting with the clusters of buildings that seemed to grow out of the very ground on which they stood. From time to time, there were glimpses of ruined kashabs while newly constructed houses contrasted with ksars (fortified villages) as we continued on the way to TODRA GORGE. Here, there was time to take in the sheer red cliffs rising to 300 metres (985 ft.) on either side of the narrow corridor that forms the gorge, just 33 ft. at its narrowest point.
