Paramaribo, Suriname: South America - Part 41

We came to Paramaribo, capital of Surniname, in warm pouring rain which didn't let up all day. And yet, we enjoyed our visit here - perhaps because of the sincere effort of our charming guide, Sensi - who always referred to it as "Beautiful Suriname", to make us see it the same way.
It is a unique place with a style of buildings we'd not found elsewhere on our travels around the edges of South America. During its colonial days under the Dutch, Suriname had its share of painful history, but if the hopeful and positive outlook of this one young resident is any indication, its future can only be a brighter prospect.
The constant rain made picture taking here very difficult, but it was today or not at all - so I did what I could during our brief visit to "Beautiful Suriname".
