This was another "highlight" of our trip to Morocco. We arose at 4 a.m. when it was not only dark but cold . . and, bundled in as many layers as we could muster, we drove (thankfully in comfortable, new, Toyota Landcruisers)off into the desert. Some of us walked over the soft, shifting sand dunes to seek a wider vista, while the rest of us stood on small hillocks of sand and waited for the sun. Our attentive guide pointed out tracks in the sand made by various small creatures, and answered our questions about everything and anything. Sunrise was beautiful and as the warm light spread over the surrounding sand dunes, we enjoyed a satisfying breakfast before returning to our hotel in Erfoud. As we drove - fanning out to avoid each other's dust - there were glimpses of the desert lifestyle . . women fetching water and black Berber tents, adding to our wonderful experience of the SAHARA DESERT.
