Rabat & Casablanca

The first day of our 9-day tour of MOROCCO began with a slow ferry ride from Spain to Tangiers ~ then a drive to RABAT, the capital. Here we visited the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, considered the father of Mococcan independence. Onwards ~ for a relaxed over-night stop at an elegant hotel on the Atlantic coast ~ and then to CASABLANCA, a name known to everyone, it seems. This allowed us to visit the superb Hassan II Mosque, seoond only to Mecca in size, but so new, it was completed in 6 years, opening in 1993, a testament to Moroccan skill and craftsmanship. A visit to Casablanca would not be complete without a stop at Rick's famous café and a delicious meal, before we continued our tour into this fascinating and surprising country.
