That's my pickup. As the Senior (Elite) Men were lined up at the start at the base of the university, Laurence Malone pulled up at the last minute in, if I remember correctly, a Karmen Ghia. He pulled his bike out of the car and worked his way with it into the middle of the start group in his street clothes. His girlfriend tossed him his kit from the sidelines and caught his clothes as he changed in the middle of the pack. He ended up with the bronze. I believe he was in his middle thirties at the time.

I watched this race. Typical Leibold "jungle cross" course. Always an adventure.
