Burying strangers

Travnik

As a busload of refugees was unloading at the Travnik Gymnasium the Serbs dropped an artillery shell on them. About half a dozen died, and they were buried in the old cemetary in Travnik. An Imam asked me to attend the djenazija, or funeral, because the deceased were strangers and had no friends or relatives to witness their burial. All those present were like me. They had been invited to attend so the refugees wouldn't be buried in solitude.
