One day I was at the British base at Gornji Vakuf and I came a cross a squaddie cleaning a sniper rifle. I asked him if it had been used lately. He was unusually grim and said "We've been shooting the Croats in the Partizan Cemetary. We're fed up with them." I thought he was pulling my leg so when I encountered the base commander later that day I asked him about it. "Not a chance. He was cleaning that rifle for something to do." Then I decided to check in at the Bosnian base at Yassa, not far away. When I drove up their commander came out to meet me. "You're James, right?" I said I was. "Could you do me a favor? Tell the British to stop shooting the Croats in the Partizan Cemetary. They think we're doing it and mortar us in retaliation. We don't have mortars to answer back with."
