The hardest working man in Bosnia

Vitez, Bosnia

Chris Stephens arrived as a stringer for the Scotsman, if I remember right. He was soon filing stories to about 8 rural British papers. He was writing all the time. Like most British journalists, he's got a great sense of humor. How come all the British reporters are funny and none of the Americans are? Something has happened to journalism in America. In today's world Mark Twain would not be able to get a job on an American paper. Same for H.L. Mencken.

Chris is standing beside the BBC's first armoured Land Rover, in fact the first armoured vehicle any media organisation obtained in the Balkans. This is the prototype Glover Webb APC, otherwise known as Miss Piggy. By some way the heaviest car we ever had, we replaced it as soon as lighter but equally effective vehicles were available. But it saved a lot of lives, mine included, and Martin Bell had a special affection for it.
