The muskrat hunter

Kotzebue, Alaska

Art Fields is better known as a polar bear hunter, but he hunts muskrat, too. A trip to the Little Noatak rounded up some 115 muskrat hides for tanning. Muskrat skins are used to sew parkas and jackets. In the early 60s Art guided the Weatherby of Weatherby rifles on a successful polar bear hunt. Weatherby was so pleased with his bear that he told Art he'd make him a custom Weatherby polar bear rifle. Art said "Everbody's got a damn custom Weatherby polar bear gun. Make me a custom Weatherby muskrat rifle instead." So these muskrat were all shot with a custom Weatherby muskrat rifle.
