Portland Rose Festival Race

Mt. Tabor, Portland, Oregon

Since the early 60s the Portland Rose Festival race at Mt. Tabor has been an important cycling event. I've been away from Portland long enough that I'm not sure what the current status is. The Mt. Tabor course is a good one for both spectators and riders. I rode the race for the first time in 1962. This photo is from the early 70s. With a little luck I'll soon get some identifications and also what year it was.

Joe Haley on the right, for sure. If we could see the helmet chin strap of the rear rider we could tell if it was Franz. He wore it around his chin.

The Rose City Wheelman promoted Mt Tabor beginning in the 1950's. I think Michael Ackley, Roger Johnson, and Clark Henry could help identify many riders in these photos. The Rose City Wheelmen is now Team Rose City. See www.teamrosecity.org

Unmistakably Joe Haley on the right. Could be Franz Pauels in the back... maybe "bird" could confirm?
