20050618 / Selling Faith

Religion and sex are powerplays
Manipulate the people for the money they pay
Selling skin, selling God
The numbers look the same on their credit cards

Q

A little afternoon evangelism outside the Starbucks in downtown Monterey.
The lyrics are from Queensryche's excellent 'Operation: Mindcrime'.
Not that I think the push in this instance is as nefarious as
the lyrics to an 80s progressive metal album might suggest. It was
just the first thing that came to mind. Really.

Way cool moment Chris. I like the blazing light in the B&W because it reflects the harsh punky attitude and the sales saviour push.Great street capture!

Love the b&w but the colour green swings it. Great capture, it looks like the guy selling thinks he really has a chance on this one!

to each their own.

Would be hard to hold a serious conversation with someone with green hair I imagine :>) Good street shot, Chris.

Great street shot. The green hair really works great on the color image. A desat on everything but the hair may have been interesting.

Hmm.. the intensity of expressions here.. (gad the girl almost looks like someone I used to know) Interesting.. it almost looks like a rosary the girl is wearing too.. or is it jus me?)

she's probably thinking what the **** is he talking about..great candid voted

Can you trust anyone who comes up to you on the street and starts talking to you? They're always trying to get money from you.
I told you to shoot more street candids, this one's excellent, I look forward to more. There'd be no question that the b&w is better if it weren't for her green hair.

and of course.. I forgot what I came here for.. This photo wouldn't have been half as perfect if the girl wasn't a bit wildly dressed - hair green - and still had that listening look on her face.

What truly surprises me is them listening to him.. Even though the girl's body language says a lot, they haven't bolted off in disgust. And THAT is very interesting.
Strange living where I am.. at a simple "new business opening" ribbon cutting last night there was a prayer and sermon by a priest. All 50 people in attendance prayed and listened with beautific smiles on their faces. I was more interested and rather surprised that it was assumed so many people believed in his God..

I love queensryche and it is very true how religion and the sex can be pushed so easily to get money out of someones purse.
