I once watched two water spouts a couple of miles off shore at Folly Beach. The first was a normal looking tornado. It tore up the surface of the water and caused the trolling shrimpboats to scatter a bit. The second descended from a cloud like a cylindrical grey tube and just went down into the water. very little turbulence.
