10th January

A rainy day.

I saw Central Demolition were on the island again
and i know they've finished knocking down Hendryfield
so i thought they must be here to carry on knocking Mansefield Place down, which they were.(are even!)
They've stripped everything out and most of the windows from the back of the building are out
I reckon another big chunk of it will come down within the next few days...
(well, when we next have decent demolition weather i suppose)

"The building is capable of high density housing with its 94 flats, but Fyne Homes has found it increasingly difficult to let the tenement flats since 2002."

If they were farm buildings in the South, they'd be subject to conservation orders and have zillions of ££££ lavished on them!!

Very sad really

Another bit of history falls by the wayside, sad to see! I
suppose that ancient stone wall will be lost as well.

I still think it's awful to see fine old buildings being destroyed. :>(

Reality! cool shot!

Seems a shame to get rid of that old building with its stately architecture. Oh well, I am sure the luxury villas will be very nice too! ;-)

They call this PROGRESS? And, they presume that they will make it all better.
Bill Miller10-Jan-2006 20:44
There will be nothing left of Bute at this rate!
James Ross10-Jan-2006 20:09
They call it progress (apparently!)

The fire looked like a squirrel on thumbnail. Fine documentation Zak. Sad though.
