I don't know if anyone has ever actually measured or surveyed the crossing accurately, but from OS mapping, and GPS tracking, the crossing is closer to 460 metres or 500 yards, ramp to ramp.

The 330 yard (300 m) figures has been quoted by writers for years, without citing any references.

I think someone used the MKI eyeball to measure the crossing one day, many moons ago, and every writer has lazily used the same figure ever since, without checking.t

It's still a long way if you don't have something that floats.

We wont be an island if we have a bridge!!

Why not a bridge? Just curious.

Could be right , that's not far at all is it. Just been checking the Corran Ferry over Loch Linnhe, but I think thats a little longer .
