I was there from 1966 to1968, was in service batry, battalian maintance. I sort of remember you. I remember Helmes was premoted to sgt. and took your place. I lived off post, and kept my alert equip in a locker in the battlion maintance deptr. When I got ready to rotate the equip was all gone. I was sure I was going to have to pay for it. Helmes dug up some equip, signed off on the returns and I was on my way home. I could not have been stationed IN A BETTER UNIT, OR A BETTER TOWN.
I meet John Pope at a 83rd reunion. Real nice fellow.
On Sunday mornings we would walk through the town stopping at the small cafe's or gasthaus' to chat with friends and when talked into it, choke down a teacup sized caffee. Never did find a doughnut shop.
I was a helicopter Crewchief there in 1979-80, B company 503rd Combat Aviation Battalion. Until the last pic I wasn't sure this was the town.
What a wonderful walk down memory lane. I was stationed in Budingen as Supply Sgt in Svc Battery (TA-50) from 1965 to 1967. There were many pleasant memories. I feel bad that Armstrong Barracks closed.
Thanks for sharing the pictures of Budingen.I was stationed there from 1960-63 and it would be great to visit the area again. It made me sad when I found out that Armstrong Barracks was closed on Aug.15,2007 .
