2007 10 Dining @ Shanghai & Nanjing

I took the following photos with the Lumix LX2 during my trip with Maggie to visit Michelle who’s on a 3-month assignment in Shanghai. We took a side trip to Nanjing. I’ll post the trip photos in Part 2 (Shanghai) and Part 3 (Nanjing) later.

Oct 16: Michelle treated us to dinner @ Shanghai Uncle Restaurant, the Bund Centre adjacent to the Westin Hotel, a new wave Hunan restaurant. When order tea in China its best to double check the price since it can range from free to RMB20 plus per glass. The appetizers are good and so is the pine seed beef shank. The rest are ok. The place is quite popular and advance booking is recommended. (Photo 1 – 6)

Oct 17: Maggie and I have dim sum lunch @ Royal China, Jing An District. When we were in London we patronized Royal China @ Queensway nearly every Sunday. Now besides its four branches in London, it has one in Singapore and one in Shanghai. The China branch maintains the high standard of the parent. (Photo 7)

We have dinner with Maggie’s brother @ the Shanghai Fishing Port Restaurant, a newly developed region in Northern Shanghai. (Photo 8 – 9)

Oct 18: We went to Pudong to have lunch with Michelle @ Ting Tai Fung, the famous Taiwan dumpling restaurant. The dumplings are quite good though can’t match the Taiwan standard in term of the meat ingredient as the pork in Shanghai is less tasty than that in Taipei. (Photo 10 – 14)

I treated my wife and daughter to freshwater crabs @ South Beauty Restaurant (one of our favorite). Advance booking is recommended for this highly popular restaurant. (Photo 15 – 25)

Oct 19: Michelle took us to Laris @ Three on the Bund, a top western restaurant in Shanghai. They have a good wine list with several hundreds RMB table wine to the ’85 Lafite which will set you back RMB15,000. I ordered a bottle of 2002 Chateau St Michelle for my daughter which is about RMB900 +. Again it’s a very popular restaurant with good food, service and superb night view of the Bund and Pudong. The only fault that I can find is the double espresso which is (alas) just double in size and not in concentration. (Photo 26 – 35)

Oct 20 (Nanjing): Prior going to the Dr Sun’s mausoleum, we’ve lunch at Yema (Mustang) Restaurant. We ordered four dishes which cost us RMB70+. Not great but ok and cheap. (Photo 36 – 37)

For dinner we’d noodle at the Confucius Temple Night Market and bought a box of “Dragon Beard Candy” for dessert. (Photo 38 – 39)

Oct 21: We took the 19:05 train back from Nanjing to Shanghai and went to Chamate (One Tea, One Seat) Jing An District branch, a Taiwanese restaurant with several branches in Shanghai. The food is not bad but the restaurant decoration and furniture is not closely resembled the parent shops in Taiwan (woody and classy), what a pity! (Photo 40 – 42)

Oct 22: Prior to our departure, we’d lunch @ Lulu (literally Egret,, Egret) Restaurant, another highly popular medium price restaurant with several branches in Shanghai. (Photo 43)
