Cauvery River - Karnataka

Cauvery is one of the most disputed rivers in India. It flows through Karnataka and empties into the Bay of Bengal in Tamil Nadu. But, politics apart, the river
offeres some of the best picnic spots.

Talakad (also known as Talakadu) is a desert-like town on the left bank of the Kaveri river at a spot where the river makes a sharp bend. It is 45 km from Mysore and 133 km from Bangalore in Karnataka, India. A historic site, Talakad once had over 30 temples that today are buried in sand. Now it is a scenic and spiritual pilgrimage centre.

120 kilomters from Bangalore lies the scenic spot of the Shivasamudram falls where one can watch the River Cauvery cascade 75 meteres into a gorge. There are two falls, Barachukki and Gaganachukki that will truly hold your breath.

Mekedatu is a location along Kaveri in Kanakapura Taluk. Sangama is the place where Arkavati merges with Kaveri. From this point, about 3.5 kilometers downstream, the river Kaveri flows through a deep gorge so narrow that one would think that a goat can leap across it ('Mekedatu' means 'goat's leap' in Kannada). It is about 100 km from Bangalore via Kanakapura.

No body bothered to put a board for Ghat/sharp curves. At one point there is a dead end and since the road is good we will normally be atleast at a speed of 80km/hr and since we can see dead end we may reduce speed to 40 or may be 30. But guys soon after the dead end you will have to take an immediate left and then a sharp right turn. And after one of our friend's bike met with an accident, we noticed that there are broken windows and other parts of vehicles which tells us that many other's were also victims. From the first sharp curve you will find few more curves. Please do no go more than 10km/hr speed. Interestingly you will find a board that Ghat came to an end once you reach Sangama. But where is Ghat Start board?? At least there is no board such as Go slow etc. :( Please be careful and have a wonderful trip..
