This is the Sultanahmet Camii or the Blue Mosque. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Turkey. The most amazing thing that struck me was that Turkey with 99% Muslim population is still a secular state. It owes that to its history, but still. What that means for a tourist is that you are allowed into every mosque, even the most functional of ones. This was a quite a cultural experience for us and we enjoyed it a lot.
Istanbul is also unique since the clash of Europe and Asia is so clear. We got to do a lot of things squeezed into 5 days, and we tried to not only see as much as we can but also eat as much as we could. Ottoman cuisine is tasty. And the sweets!!! yummy!
